The Rule of 100

How to not suck at something 🕺🏼🤢🕺🏼🤢

The Rule of 100

When you're starting on something new, you're inevitably going to suck at it. Like really bad.

It's normal to want to immediately give up after 5-10 tries. If you take a step back and think about how long that actually is, it's not even a flash in the pan. If you gave up after 10 tries, that would arguably be the most sorry excuse I've seen for an effort in my entire life.

But for the record, I’ve been there too and I’ve gotten hyped up about posting content online under my name. After watching the first ten videos I’ve made I wanted to throw up and throw my phone at the wall.

Completely normal feeling. Right?

When we try something new, you immediately feel stupid, stuck, and confused on what to do.

I told myself I would not try to push my personal Instagram audience into my new health creator account audience until I hit 100 posts. Nor would I ask anyone for help until I've posted 100 times.

Dope pic if I may say so myself.

As of today, I am 3 posts away from 100 posts. I can confidently say that I do not need any help with understanding how to make a good video. But I could use a little more effort on content strategy and systemization. But the 58th post I put up ripped to 1.4 million views. From ONE VIDEO!

Admittedly that success partially comes from dumb luck. But one could argue that the luck was created by trying and creating so many shitty videos in the beginning. Which I completely agree to be true.

Now for me, getting this good is going to be completely about reps, consistency, and time in the game. Not just hitting one banger and calling it quits. Granted it was a nice fat dopamine rush to hit 1.4M views that fast.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know who Mr Beast is. Whenever someone asks him how to get started on Youtube and make videos he tells them all the same thing: "Make 100 videos and then come back to me.” He says this because either they will quit before 100 videos, or they will figure out what to do on their own once they hit 100 and no longer need his help.

I can confirm that is exactly what happened to me.

If you’re trying to get good at something and someone tries to tell you they can coach you for a price or a guide they can sell you will do it for you they’re full of shit.

It’s about volume and learning as you go. Ignore that voice in your head that tells you you look stupid. You probably do, do it anyways.

Do it 100 times, and then keep going. We all start from zero at some point.

You’re Awesome,

Jared
