Belly-To-Belly

Did you know you can just go do things ๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿค”

Belly-to-Belly

Never heard of her.

While SF was getting pulverized by a bomb cyclone (that has to be a made-up name?), I decide to drive down to Los Angeles at 3 am on a Saturday night. Initially, I wanted to F off and enjoy the beautiful PNW greenery before I went heads down on "what's next" (story for a different time).

Mother Nature had other plans.

So I made a pivot.

Because I can.

Normally I wouldnโ€™t just write about how my weekend went. But Iโ€™m fired up and sleep deprived. It felt too good not to talk about.

This is what ChatGPT thinks a Bomb Cyclone looks like. Kind of goes hard.

Soft Pivot

I set an intention to disconnect from the hustle mindset, which for me is not easy. As I was deciding to pivot, I noticed that Coffee & Chill was happening this weekend in LA.

What is Coffee & Chill? If you haven't noticed, that is what inspired me to start Plunge Party up in San Francisco. Instead of just sending them a random DM and telling them I love what they're doing, I knew showing up and introducing myself would make a way better impression. The last thing I wanted them to think was some rando in SF was copying them.

Enter my idea: meet them IRL.

Why would I drive 7 hours down to LA to meet these two guys throwing cold plunge parties every weekend? Showing up in person is a serious statement.

My goal was to learn and introduce myself. Perhaps we could share some tips on what was working, and ultimately take notes on how to make Plunge Party even better than it is right now.

I sent out the bat signal and made a couple calls to let friends know I was coming down.

I found a place to sleep the night before. Shoutout to my man Rahi for the couch.

Speed x Agility.

Love it.

Auto-Pilot

I slept 4.5 hours on Friday night. Woke up at 2 am and hit the road when my roommates were coming back from the club. I heard the Nero show they went to was good at least.

It's a 6.5-hour drive if you leave at 3 am (when you drive a Tesla). I was fueled by enthusiasm, adrenaline, and a free 30-day trial of full self-drive.

Letโ€™s ride โšก๏ธ๐Ÿ’จ

Arriving in LA, I make the mistake I normally do and overcommit on back-to-back encounters.

Looking back, absolutely worth it.

In that day, I got to:

  • Catch up Jonah Salita, who is part of the Superpower founding team

  • Meet Dom Cianciotto, at Venice Plunge Club, heโ€™s the one that helped me get my hands on the party plunges for Plunge Party

  • Go with my cousin to see Anotr play at the USC Expo Center

After all that, I was still in bed by 12:45 am. Not too shabby on 4.5 hours of sleep!

Of course I cold plunged at the event.

Sunday

Coffee and Chill time.

I showed up 20 minutes in, and the place was absolutely bumping. 6 sponsor booths, 4 group plunge tubs, 4 saunas, 2 coffee stations, and 1 electric environment.

I was taking mad notes in my head. I could see why this was working so well.

I sniped out one of the co-founders (Blake) and joined him in line at coffee, casually struck up a conversation, and before I could even drop that I was doing what they were doing up in SF, George (the other co-founder) recognized me and came to say hi!

I especially love the turf they put under the tubs

It could not have gone better.

They saw that we were doing this for the same reasons, and I said I want nothing more than to

Showing up was a success. I got a cold plunge in (three times), some David protein bars, electrolyte drinks, met the founders, and had a damn good time.

Bonus - I met some awesome people and even ran into Jeff Tang, who recently moved down to LA after getting acqui-hired by Bryan Johnson.

As I was winding down back at my friends place, I was talking to my good friend in San Diego, Colton, he said he was going lobster diving later that night.

I asked if I could come join.

I got a yes.

After some rough swell and an hour of lobster diving, we got one to bring back for dinner.

Despite needing to catch up on some sleep, I'd say this last-minute send of a weekend was a success.

Why am I telling you this

What's the point of me giving you a weekend recap?

First off, I had a great time and I honestly just wanted to share that.

Secondly, if you want to meet someone or get something done, get off your phone, stop sending them emails, and get the hell out of your house and go find them. Don't be creepy about it and stalk them, but show up to something in person and show that you're serious about wanting to meet them. It goes a hell of a long way.

There's a saying for doing something like this in business for getting deals done: meeting belly-to-belly.

Next time you want to get something done or figure something out.

Leave your fucking house and just go do things.

Youโ€™re Awesome,

Jared
